The Director of Environmental will implement programs to ensure implementation and compliance with all environmental regulations. The role will be directing a team supporting all centralized reporting, permitting and compliance activities, processes and systems.
The position requires up to 50% travel.
Duties
- Support development and implementation of the enterprise Environmental Management System (ISO-like)
- Design and implement a comprehensive compliance verification program in accordance with Federal, State, Local, and Provincial laws and company policies and procedures.
- Provide subject matter expertise air permitting/compliance, storm and waste water, and non and hazardous waste.
- Working knowledge of applicable environmental laws, regulations and work practices with hazardous chemicals.
- Prepare permits and compliance programs for multiple environmental media, including air, wastewater, stormwater, waste, spill prevention and storage tanks, EPCRA (Tier II, TRI)
- Perform multi-media environmental compliance audits, gap assessments, inspections, and program reviews; prepare compliance key performance indicator reports for executive management review.
- Develop and support implementation and management of various monitoring and spill prevention and contingency plans/programs (SPCC, FRP, SWPPP, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans, etc.);
- Experienced with interpreting environmental reports and testing data in connection with operations and best management practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local air regulations with emphasis on the Clean Air Act, including New Source Review/Prevention of Significant Deterioration, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, New Source Performance Standards, Title V Permitting, PFAS
- Oversee emission calculations and estimates for routine emissions, as well as greenhouse gas and maintenance, start-up and shutdown emissions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Recourse Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), and the Department of Transportation (DOT) hazmat shipment requirements.
- Implement and participate in corporate M&A activity providing guidance, expertise and research when needed.
- Support facility compliance managers with operational compliance initiatives.
- Recommend environmental improvement programs and solutions to regulatory challenges, based on proven successful practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years in an industrial Environmental environment
- Prefer experience in oil & gas, refineries, or chemical industries
- Statutes, Laws & Regulations – Working knowledge of applicable standards promulgated by EPA, OSHA and regulatory authorities sanctioned to oversee these industries.
- Planning/organizing - Ability to organize work, set priorities, work independently and make productive use of time. Must also be able to instill planning and organizational traits to a subordinate level through management techniques and delegation.
- Adaptability - Ability to accept changes in the work environment manages competing demands. Effectively lead a program and team.

- Communication and Contact – Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company. Employee must frequently provide a high level of customer service to field management.
