Quality & HSE Coordinator

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and rigorous Quality & HSE Coordinator to lead our quality assurance and environmental, health, and safety initiatives at our Chesterfield, MI facility. This facility directly supports premier automotive paint and coating customers. The ideal candidate will possess substantial knowledge and hands-on experience working with Tier 1 and OEM automotive customers, a deep understanding of automotive quality standards, and a proven track record of data-driven problem-solving. You will bridge the gap between technical quality compliance and operational excellence, ensuring our intermediate bulk container (IBC) cleaning and testing processes meet the absolute highest standards of defect-free reliability.

Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annual salary

Position Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Process Control:

  • Production Control Plan Compliance: Enforce rigorous adherence to localized control plans, guaranteeing strict process control parameters for consistent, contaminant-free IBC cleaning.
  • Verification Integrity: Standardize and validate all testing, wash-verification, and release protocols to ensure quality standards are met and prevent nonconformances.
  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA): Manage equipment calibration and gage capability studies to eliminate measurement variance and secure absolute data integrity.
  • Operational Alignment: Collaborate closely with the operations team to maintain tight process controls, meet and exceed production goals, and preserve a high level of quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement process improvements, practice lean daily management principles, and actively support Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Nonconformance Management (NCR): Lead and execute the containment, root-cause investigation and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) process for internal and external nonconformances in a detailed and timely manner. Apply fact based and data-driven problem solving methodology.
  • Primary Technical Liaison: Serve as the direct, primary point of contact for automotive customers, providing real-time feedback, rapid troubleshooting, and technical alignment for quality concerns.

Quality Management System Governance:

  • Oversee QMS to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and customer-specific requirements.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures and process documentation in accordance with the QMS, customer specific and applicable regulatory requirements (i.e., Process Flowchart, PFMEA, Control Plan, Measurement System Analysis, Test Data, QC Inspection, Change Management (MOC) and Preventative Maintenance (PM)).
  • Ensure all appropriate all QMS and process related records are retained in accordance with DCI’s record retention policy, as well as customer specific and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and conduct Layered Process Audits (LPAs)to proactively identify and correct process drift or emerging quality concerns.
  • Oversee the internal audit process, lead the site management review, and serve as the management representative for all customer and external audits.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

  • Environmental Compliance: Maintain records and coordinate the submission of local, state, and federal environmental reports/permits (including air, waste, and water) under the direction and support of regional and corporate EHS teams.
  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure unwavering compliance with internal DCI safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and proactively promote a workplace culture centered on safety, compliance, and hazard reduction.
  • Mission Support: Execute additional EHS tasks as required to champion DCI’s mission to eliminate hazards and reduce risk to people and the environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; High School Diploma with equivalent relevant experience will be fully considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related industry, with strong exposure to Tier 1 or OEM automotive quality environments.
  • Professional certification in Quality and/or HSE a significant plus.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to independently resolve complex issues using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone); skilled at synthesizing technical data into clear, actionable presentations for executive-level review.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internet-based applications.
  • Comfortable and proficient working in a heavy industrial environment while strictly adhering to safety and environmental protocols.
  • Ability to travel periodically (estimated 25% – 50%).
